Manu Tour 4 days
|
From US$400 person
Manu National Park is located west of Puerto Maldonado. Although access is easier through Cusco. Visiting Manu requires time and accepting or being open to special and sometimes difficult travel conditions. You should be mainly flexible to changes in travel plans mainly for lime reasons. As in all the Amazon the fauna is shy and elusive so we suggest taking a tour of at least 6 to 8 days to get a good record of sightings.
Day 01: Cusco / Cloud Forest / Pilcopata
We leave Cusco in the morning in our comfortable bus. We ascend to the high area of Paucartambo where we have breakfast. On the way we will visit the funeral towers or Chullpas of Ninamarca, we will pass by the highest point of our tour Acjanaco. Then we descend through the mysterious cloud forest, full of beautiful orchids, heliconias and primitive ferns. We stop to give you the opportunity to witness the cock of the rock (Rupicola peruviana) in the mating ritual. There are also chances to observe trogons (Trogon sp.) and many other bird species. If we are lucky we will find the only bear in South America, the spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus). During this descent we will have lunch on the side of the road, we will have different stops to observe animals, birds and plants. In the afternoon we arrive at our typical lodge with bathrooms and showers where we will spend the night. This will be the last night in which we will have electricity and internet, to charge and prepare our devices.
Day 02: Pilcopata – Atalaya – Amazon Lodge
After our breakfast, we continue in our bus and we will make a hike where we can observe many birds. On the way we will also visit coca leaf plantations. Then we arrive at the port of Atalaya, where we board our boat for about 40 minutes to our lodge. During the afternoon we will have a two hour walk in the jungle to observe the flora and fauna of the Manu National Park. In the evening we will have night walks to get to know the nocturnal wildlife. We will spend the night in our lodge with bathrooms and showers available.
Day 03: Amazon Lodge / Parrot Clay Lick / Cocha Machuhuasi
After a typical Amazonian breakfast, we start a hike to see different types of animals. The region is home to peccaries, different species of monkeys, tapirs, anteaters and more. As we reach the wetlands, you will also get a close look at caimans and amphibians.
Our native guide will give you some jungle survival lessons. You will learn how to climb trees and recognize edible plants and fruits.
We will stop to watch the sunset before returning to the lodge for dinner. After dinner, we will take a short night walk to see more nocturnal animals.
Day 04: Atalaya / Return to Cusco
After breakfast, we will take a short hike. Then we embark on a boat ride to the boat dock of Atalaya. Our representative will be waiting here with the minivan for our return trip to the city of Cusco. On the way, we will stop in Paucartambo for lunch. We will be in Cusco at approximately 6:00 pm.
